2017-2018 Weddel Seals - Mawson & Davis Adare Seas - POI and Fun Finds

#61

If the “curved lines” you are referring to Cagey, are what I’ve highlight in yellow, then no, they are cracks in the shifting snow/ice. What I’ve circled in Red “might” be a seal or something  or just another crack beginning to form

#62

Not sure that what you have circled in red are seals… zoom in to +3 and scroll til the black dot is just above the scale.

Too big for a seal, methinks

#63

Yes, I think it’s just cracking in the snow/ice

Anyone have a guess as to what all of this blue debris could be? One piece looks like a whale. It looks like twisted metal.

Hi Elle_Kaye,
Welcome to Tomnod Forum - we’d like for you to write some about yourself in the Nodder Introductions thread (http://forum.tomnod.com/t/nodder-introductions/11).

Your question: Do you mean within the red/pink polygon? I don’t see it. I only see snow that is formed by the wind, and the black dots might be stones. Tell us what you see.

#68

I agree with @Shaul. I don’t see anything in the poly, however if you zoom out to minus 4 you will see a lot of ice and snow formations on a lacy background. Sometimes you will get different colors in natural (as opposed to manmade structures and debris) due to satellite imaging and general light reflections. You can get a feel for a wide range of objects both natural and manmade by clicking on links in forum member posts. Hope this helps.:slightly_smiling_face:

I think @cageycat laid around a little too long during the snowstorm. Only her eyes, nose and whiskers are sticking out. :smile_cat:

#78

 That’s exactly what an 18-yr old guy told my daughter-in-law when they had a collision several nights ago. My DIL asked the “kid” if he was going to get out to survey the damage and he replied, “No way! It’s cold out there!” :face_with_raised_eyebrow: To be fair, it was only about 5F/-15Cc and the wind was blowing like crazy. But still… refusing to get out of your vehicle after an accident? Kids!

#79

not sure what it is …40 PM

I’ve seen some of these at other research stations. They’re probably storage tanks - better on rock than on flexible ice.
