READ THIS BEFORE POSTING: DigitalGlobe’s FirstLook disaster monitoring team spends our days (and nights) tracking major events around the world. Keeping our eyes and ears tuned in to events such as natural and manmade disasters and political instability ensures that DigitalGlobe’s satellites are pointing in the right direction to quickly collect imagery and assist first responders and other decision makers in the field.
Our team of regional geospatial experts also enjoys finding cool, large-scale human interest events like Oktoberfest in Germany, the Burning Man festival in the U.S. and the Olympic Games.
Interesting events in under-reported areas of the world sometimes go unnoticed, so in an effort to image these events we’re widening our network of volunteer reporters to the global Tomnod community. If there is an event of interest going on in your area, bring it to our attention by posting a new topic in the public Tomnod forum in the “FirstLook” category. The FirstLook team will be notified each time a new topic is created as long as it’s posted in this specific category.
There is no guarantee that we will be able to collect an image of the event, but we will respond to your event submission regardless. However, depending on the event, there is a possibility of creating a Tomnod campaign in order to expedite data collection on a large scale.
