Serious (tongue in cheek) Question about TX and LA


Why did the French settle Louisiana, but next door in Texas become “cowboy” settlements? Seems Texas only took the French word Bayou?


Because the natives of Louisiana were party animals and knew how to really cook up gator meat and stew?


They definitely didn’t like Spanish food… that and the Mississippi didn’t go towards their other holding in North America. That was what they considered to be Quebec… all along the St. Lawrence, through the Great Lakes and down the Miss. Plus a lot of the land drained by it… They used the Missouri but didn’t entirely consider it their territory… they needed the Natives to trade with, not so much the Brittish and others to the east…
